Holiday Bikeability Level 1 & 2

This course is for children who are confident and competent riders with a recommended minimum age of 9 

The rider is taking part in a 2 day combined level 1 & 2 course, which they need to attend both days.
The course starts in an off-road environment, the rider must be able to ride in a straight line, whilst looking behind and riding with one hand whilst keeping control of the bike. If they are struggling with this element of the course, they will not be able to proceed to the on-road sessions, and you will need to collect them.

This course will give the rider a basic level of cycling competence on which they will need to build and practice with an adult, it should not be regarded as a guarantee of their safety.

They will need.

Holiday Bikeability Level 3

This course is for riders who are already comfortable riding on the road and is recommended for age 9 to 18

The riders ideally should be regular cyclists and preferably have taken part in a level 2 course prior to commencing this course.  They will learn more advanced skills, including how to:

Use the best riding position for any situation

Ride on more complex roads, this might include complicated junctions or faster roads with speed limits over 30mph.

Use traffic lights, multi-lane roads, or cycle lanes.

The course will only give the rider a basic level of cycling competence on which they will need to build and practice with an adult, it should not be regarded as a guarantee of their safety.

If they are struggling with this element of the course, they will not be able to proceed to the on-road sessions, and you will need to collect them.

Holiday Bikeability Child Learn to Ride

This course encourages non-riders to become riders. It takes place in a playground or similar off-road location. The session is 45 minutes long and you will need to accompany the rider throughout the session. 

They will need.

  • A roadworthy cycle (without stabilisers) with 2 working brakes.
  • Suitable helmet (not full face)
  • Suitable clothing for the weather
  • Small backpack, with a drink and snack

Instructors are not liable for any loss or damage to participants' cycles and other belongings.

Dr Bike (workshop)

Bike health check and minor repairs, such as:
• Brakes - Caliper and cable adjustment, cable and pad replacement
• Gears - Indexing, adjustment, and cable replacement
• Chain - Check for wear, lubricate if required
• Tyres - Puncture repair / tube replacement, inflated to recommended pressure (PSI)
• Other - Check all nuts and bolts are correctly torqued
• Headset and bottom bracket check
• Check bar plugs and cable end caps, and replace if missing

We will spend a maximum of 30-minutes per bike, and will signpost to a ‘bike shop’ if repairs required exceed this time.

Holiday Bikeability Level 3

This course is for riders who are already comfortable riding on the road and is recommended for age 9 to 18

The riders ideally should be regular cyclists and preferably have taken part in a level 2 course prior to commencing this course.  They will learn more advanced skills, including how to:

Use the best riding position for any situation

Ride on more complex roads, this might include complicated junctions or faster roads with speed limits over 30mph.

Use traffic lights, multi-lane roads, or cycle lanes.

The course will only give the rider a basic level of cycling competence on which they will need to build and practice with an adult, it should not be regarded as a guarantee of their safety. 

They will need.

  • A road-worthy bike with 2 brakes.
  • Suitable helmet (not full face)
  • Suitable clothing for the weather
  • Small backpack, with a drink and a snack

Off Road session.

Bikeability Level 1 sessions are designed to be fun and engaging for children.  These sessions take place in a traffic-free environment, and include fun games and activities to make learning enjoyable and to boost confidence.

The rider must be able to cycle unaided for at least one minute without help or stabilisers, instructors may refuse participation if this is not the case.

They will need.

  • A roadworthy cycle (without stabilisers) with 2 working brakes.
  • Suitable helmet (not full face)
  • Suitable clothing for the weather
  • Small backpack with a drink and a snack
